All my heroes are human and my gods are all dead

This is from the song Self Loathing by Days N Daze. I really liked this line, so I got to thinking, why do I like it? What about it draws me to it so?

I like it because it paints an imperfect world and acknowledges it. We have heroes, but we see that they are not perfect, they are only human. We do not make ourselves desperately believe the world is a perfect thing. I think about existentialism and absurdism a lot. I don’t think a day goes by where I don’t think about it. Why am I here? Does my life have meaning? Will it have meaning? This line from the song braces the absurd. The gods are dead because we cannot take a leap of faith. Taking a leap of faith is like turning a blind eye to the truth and choosing to accept something we cannot logically know is true or not – just because it is convenient and is a good buffer from the truth.

From a Nietzschean view, this is a very life-affirming quote. We do not tell ourselves any lies. We confront the truth and its hardships – we take the hard route because struggle makes us better in the end.
