This painting is called The Human Condition, by Rene Magritte. It’s from the surrealist movement. I do not know much about art or surrealism, but I’m going to learn. But this painting does speak to me.
I just wrote a post about the loss of meaning in life, and I think this painting is a perfect representation of that. The painting is of a painting, but it looks like you’re looking out a window. Technically, we do not know which it is. It could be a painting, or it could be reality. This is what technology is doing to us. It particularly makes me think of things like youtube, livestreaming, and video games. We get so absorbed in these things and forget ourselves. Have you ever watched a video, or played a game, and felt totally one with it? Just kind of feel detached from yourself? Is that living?
